June 17, 2010 | Bevier Memorial Building - posted by Amanda This gorgeous building at 42 S. Washington St. is the Bevier Memorial Building. Named for Susan Bevier, who donated her entire art collection to the Rochester Athaneaum and Mechanics Institute (now known as R.I.T). This is one of the few buildings that remain from R.I.T.'s downtown campus. Listed on the National Register of Historical Places, its ceramic trim is still gorgeous, given that the building is 100 years old this year. Completed in 1910 it was designed by local architect Claude Fayette Bragdon. (Information compiled from wikipedia and Art on Campus. |
