This is the Sensation Lilac, which originated in the Netherlands in 1938 courtesy of Dirk E. Maarse. The collection of Lilacs that would eventually start the Lilac Festival began in 1890. This world-renowned collection of Lilacs (over 550 varieties) now covers 22 acres at our very own Highland Park. Rochester NY. Be sure to check back tomorrow for another unusual Lilac! |
